MISSION & Investment Thesis

Copper Wire Ventures LLC grew out a shared mission between Jessica Millstone, a 25+ year veteran of tech organizations in the education space, and a family office looking to diversify its holdings.  With a mere 2.7% of all venture funding going to women founders in 2019 (and that number decreasing in 2020), the goal was simple: drive more investment into women-led businesses. They knew direct investments in early-stage companies — created by dynamic female founders — would be a high-impact way to achieve this shared goal.

The crisis around traditional approaches to supporting education through technology — exacerbated by COVID-19 — have created more opportunities than expected for Copper Wire’s proof-of-concept fund first investments. It’s also helped validate our thesis around the value in a wider variety of educational and workplace experiences pioneering and inventing the future of learning + work.

Our commitment to coming in at the earliest stage (sometimes as first money in) and supporting women and other underestimated founders in raising additional capital is steadfast. We actively seek and help cultivate co-investments by similarly mission-driven venture capital firms to scale our portfolio companies going forward. We strive to be as helpful as possible to build and grow a shared vision of the way people live and work going forward.
